Sometimes you have to step into the darkness to find your light.

Dawn Moloney has struggled her whole life with words. Finding it impossible to express her opinion, she spends her days doing what others tell her to. Taken for granted by her boss and friends, she can never find the right way to stand up to them. Nobody takes Dawn seriously, including herself.

Forced to move back to her childhood home after an attack leaves her bruised and broken, Dawn struggles to adjust.

When her mother suggests she try classes at a local centre for the unemployed, she reluctantly agrees. There, she meets Alayne Adams, who prefers to focus more on Dawn rather than what classes she is taking.

Talking about herself is Dawn’s worst nightmare, but if she wants to get better, she will have to learn.
Can she find the right words?

“It takes two seconds to figure out I’m being attacked. After he tears my hair from its follicles and yanks with a ferocity that lifts me from the ground. As my back hits the concrete with such force it winds me, I still can’t comprehend what is happening. Alert, but reeling, the tug makes my brain shift, and it takes too long to get my bearings and figure out it is intentional. Two seconds is a long time. In two seconds, I could get up, kick out, scream or run. I could fight back. Instead, I do nothing.”
